60 Seconds to FIRE Newsletter 20
Something Inspiring to Celebrate the 20th Edition of our Newsletter.
Hey Geo-Fire Fams!
Gosh—it’s July already!
2025 is absolutely ripping by, and sometimes it feels like time is just evaporating. Maybe it’s because I’m knocking on the door of 40, or maybe life really does speed up as we get older—but either way, this passing of time is yet another reason I believe so deeply in the power of setting goals, breaking them down, and working on them every single day.
So far this year, I’ve:
Visited five countries with my partner
Worked through a tough university semester
Reconnected with friends and family back in New Zealand
Rehabbed some long-standing injuries
Started learning French
Published my book on Mini-Retirements
Built The Lazy Formula - Options Trading Course to help others achieve financial freedom, If you want to sign up just send “course” via the Message button below
Read some life changing books (the Dune series is amazing)
And best of all…. I got a freakin Spanish retirement visa (NLV).🤯 🇪🇸
When I write it all down, it seems like a lot. But I didn’t do it all at once. It came together through tiny actions—15, 30, or 60-minute blocks scribbled into my planner. Which brings me to a question for you…. Do you do something similar? Do you already eat your elephant a bite at a time or do you just hope that one day the clouds will part and you will be gifted a large block of time and focus to get to your goals? Yeah didn’t think so. Ok then, read on.
The book has proved popular and really inspired me to write more. Thanks again folks.
The Secret: Daily Action Over Time
My daily to-do list is pretty repetitive:
Read (Stoic Philosophy). Write (Journal). Train (A detailed training Plan). Uni Study (One subject per day). Writing block. Spanish & French blocks. Money block… etc
It’s not flashy, and it’s definitely not sexy. But it’s consistent. And that’s the point.
Most people underestimate what can happen with 15 minutes of focused effort every day. You can:
Read a chapter that shifts your thinking
Connect with your partner with deep conversation (put the phone away)
Learn a new AI tool to save time at work
Cook a healthy meal and drop a few pounds over time
Expand your Financial IQ to earn better returns
Learn a language, one lesson at a time
Meditate and reset your mind
Literally anything that makes you healthier, happier, wiser or wealthier.
These daily investments add up. They push the needle forward—sometimes slowly, sometimes in ways you won’t notice until you stop to look back.
Not sexy but it’s consistent.
Accountability: The Hidden Superpower
Here’s the other piece of the puzzle that keeps me moving forward: accountability.
Every Wednesday, I send a quick 1–2 minute video update to a small group of close friends. We call it the Wednesday Waffle—just a casual check-in where we share wins, struggles, goals, and life stuff.
I tell them what I’m working on—and they ask about it the following week. That simple act of having people expect an update pushes me to make sure I’ve got something to report.
It’s a kind of self-imposed deadline that keeps me sharp, focused, and honest. They support me, challenge me, and help me stay on track. And I do the same for them.
It might sound simple, but it’s one of the most powerful tools I use. Without it, I’m not sure I’d make as much progress on my dreams. Try it out for yourself and see if it ramps up your motivation to get things done.
A group of people who know what your working towards and hold you to it.
Reflection: Your Progress Is Hiding in Plain Sight
Here’s the part most people skip—but it’s where the magic happens: stopping to measure your progress. You’re already putting in the effort… now it’s time to celebrate and realign. That’s why I take time to pause and reflect—monthly, quarterly, and especially mid-year like now. I look back and ask:
What did those little time blocks add up to?
Did I learn a new skill?
Did I make progress toward financial freedom?
Did I improve my relationships or physical health?
These reflection points aren’t just motivational. They prove that slow, steady action works.
And it’s this very reflection that gets me fired up for the next phase. So plan them, put them into your calendar, buy a bottle of wine and a yummy cheese board and make these reflection days a flipping celebration for all those time blocks you’ve put in over the last few weeks, months etc. This is another thing to help motivate you into being a consistent little goal destroyer!
Looking Back: The Past Six Months of Wins
For me, I write these goals down over a period of six months and I record them like I've already achieved it. Like I've already got the outcome I was working towards. Below are some personal goals that I have for the remaining six months of 2025. Some of these will seem a bit weird, but I accept that, i’m weird LOL. I want you to look at these and work out some goals for yourself, some things you can do to help move the needle towards the life you really want.
“Here’s what I’ve accomplished between July and December 2025”:
I completed another semester at university and maintained my GPA 📚
I moved into my new apartment in Spain and began settling into my new lifestyle
I ran a half marathon in San Sebastián—an incredible experience in one of the world’s culinary capitals
I launched “The Lazy Formula – Options Trading Course” and welcomed my first group of students 🤑
I started on an updated version of The Ultimate Mini-Retirement Guide
I stayed injury-free and reached my goal weight of 90 kg ⚖️
I went paragliding for a second time—this time over the Spanish coastline, an unforgettable experience
My French reached an A2 level, and my Spanish improved to a strong B2/C1
My partner and I explored several cities across Spain, immersing ourselves in local culture and food
I built a daily 15-minute meditation habit that helped me stay grounded, focused, and grateful 🧘🏼
These weren’t pipe dreams or distant “someday” goals. They were written down, broken into manageable chunks, and chipped away at daily. Some days it felt slow, but looking back, the progress feels massive.
The Process: How to Set Goals and Actually Stick to Them
If you want to make real progress in your own life—whether it’s health, wealth, relationships, or personal growth—here’s the exact process I use:
1. Identify what you want
Be honest. What would make your life better, happier, simpler, or more exciting? Where’s the low hanging fruit?
2. Visualize the outcome
Write a future statement as if you’ve already achieved it:
“I’ve read 10 books on investing and feel confident in my strategy.”
3. Work backward to figure out what needs to be done
Break that goal into small, repeatable actions that you can schedule daily or weekly.
4. Remove friction and barriers
Set up your environment so success is easier than failure. Remove distractions, (phone, partner, kids, calls etc). Make it simple to start.
5. Schedule your time and protect it fiercely
Put those blocks into your calendar. Even 15 minutes a day adds up—especially when done every day.
6. Create accountability
Tell someone. Better yet, tell a few people. Update them regularly. Let them help keep you honest.
Your Turn: Design Your Next 6 Months
So here's my challenge to you:
Where are you now?
How happy are you? How healthy? How financially free? What would you like to be able to say you've achieved by New Year’s Eve?
Are you 5kg lighter?
Have you read those books?
Spent more time with your partner or kids?
Started investing or improved your financial literacy?
Built a healthier routine or started a new hobby?
What daily time commitment would move you toward those goals?
Even 15 minutes…. Especially 15 minutes. What’s likely to derail you—and how can you remove or work around it?
Who’s holding you accountable?
Whether it’s a Messenger group, a weekly call, or just a buddy who’ll check in—don’t skip this step.Three good boys on an adventure
Final Thoughts: You’ve Got the Time
If you’d told me before I retired at 35 that I’d be:
Studying at university
Writing books
Creating courses
Traveling full-time
Living in Europe
…I would have questioned your sanity.
But by breaking my goals into small, daily actions and staying consistent—even on days I didn’t feel like it—I’ve built a life that honestly blows my mind.
So can you.
You don’t need a perfect plan. You don’t need hours of free time. You just need a vision, a bit of structure, and the discipline to keep showing up.
Start today. Pick one small thing. Do it.
Tomorrow, do it again.
You’re only 15 minutes away from the life you want.
Cheers

Self-imposed deadlines is a great technique for turning dreams into reachable goals
I too write down my goals and split them into them into 1, 5, 10 yr time frame and into categories of financial, travel and relationships, ie, add 6-7 new countries this year, fire by 45, travel to all countries by 50, celebrate 30 years with my husband at 50, this way it keeps me on path and I can hold myself accountable
